Scary isn't it ?... We are already entering 2012 and our species population has exploded beyond the number of 7 billion people.

With approximately 6 infants entering this world at every single second, the exponential birth rate has alarmed many scientist, theorist and concerned environmental visionaries, of just how the planet Earth, and it's eco-system, is going to cope with such a brutal life force, the human race.

Since the beginning of the 2000's decade, there has been a great dawn of hope and understanding for all of us. The topic of global warming has been announced world wide, through media, education and environmental campaigns.

The imagination, innovation and creativity of the magnificent minds, from the many diverse cultures of the world, have come to develop and produced readily available solutions and technologies for tackling climate change and how to resolve our negative behaviours and how it effects the planet, by birthing the boom of the green energy power plant industry[s].

And this solution, to the inevitable conflict that faces each and every one of us, has one factor of importance, for one extremely serious reason, by rule nature, by rule of all life forms on Earth, an aspect that all species share in common within their primary functions... " to survive and to protect our young, our future ". And this is why we must begin the arduous task of resolving the many conflicts that stand before us when it comes to global warming, so that we can protect our species future.

So !... How can we all do our part to help slow this conflict down called global warming, and at the same time reduce our excess consumption of natural resources and the unnecessary pollution that follows because of it ?

so far, the answer is " by changing ourselves ! "

Below are some important factors, hints, tips and resources that we could all use to make a small change in our lives personally, but, make a massive shift in how we affect the world in such a negative way as a species.

Being Green - Personally & at Home

We actually do not have to change our lifestyles too much in order to create a less destructive influence on the world. Here are some ideas I think that you may like.

1 - Turn off a light switch - this is the most easiest way of helping, having a light on in a room in your house not being used accounts for some of your monthly power bill, one light may not make a differnce, but if 1 million people turn off one light in their house, then it would be significant change for the world.

2 - Have quick showers - having shorter showers can accumulate to other small changes in your house that all tally up to a large change, also make sure to install a low-flow shower head which limits the water usage. Why use so much Gas, Water and electricity.? 4-5 minutes is all we need to achieve good hygiene standards !

3 - Turn the brightness and volume down on your TV & PC - many people do not know this one. By using the settings on your TV/PC and turning down the brightness and the volume levels you will save power/electricity. The brighter and louder it is, the more power it needs and uses to make it work. Having a bright TV/PC will affect your eyesight overtime in a negative way and the loudness will effect your sensitive hearing ability. Why make it hard on yourself ?

4 - Buy Solar Power ! - Solar power industries around the world have developed many different methods of obtaining power from the sun, and since there are so many companies out there making it, the technology is now cheap and readily available. Why take the family on that holiday this year when you could use that money to buy and use your own solar power electricity. You can also put power back into the power grid and earn some money from doing it, which can be next years holiday paid for !

5 - Cooling the house - This is another one people are not aware of. All electrical appliances (mainly TV & PC's) give off a radiant heat, just like a heater. By placing your TV or PC close to a window most of the heat will radiate through it. Also another trick is to point the air cooling vents in the roof directly at your TV & PC, this will lower the radiant heat coming off of your appliances, therefore keeping that room more cooler and lower how much your cooling system has to work, saving electricty. There are also other methods like placing polystyrene or aluminium foil sheets over the windows that have the most contact with direct sunlight, this will keep that room cool .

6. - Buy a Pool blanket/roller - By buying a blanket or roller that covers the surface of your pool you will attract many positive aspects. It reduces the evaporation levels to almost zero, meaning that you do not need to refill your pool with the garden hose after every summer week. Also it stops unwanted objects entering the filter, by catching it on the surface, which we all know puts pressure on the pools pump motor, which use the electricity. So, why not have a crystal clear pool, stop the evaporation and never have to clean your pool all year round ?

7 - Eat less meat or become Vegetarian - now before you may say "Hey!, its in our nature to eat meat !" I just need you to understand one point. The meat industries around the world are highly pollutive and demanding on resources and agriculture. The Transportation, the factories, the livestock and everything involved demands electrictity which puts pressure on the resources sector to dig for more coal for the power. Even the cows or animals themselves pollute, just like the cow, expelling methane into the atmosphere. The more demand for meat that we put on these industries, the more pollution that is caused. So by eating less meat or becoming vegetarian we will all reduce the amount of pollution that is caused by this lifestyle. So! just eat meat 2-3 times a week if you love your burger or steak. (P.S - thankyou vegetarians!)

Opinion Toll - Over populating the planet

Would you consider it to be ethical, to establish a global "one child birthing policy " in your country, to reduce the risk of over populating the planet ?

  • Yes, we need to consider options
  • No, that is a crazy idea !
  • Not sure, I have not though about it

8. Only use Washing machines/Dishwashers when full - Making sure that you only use these white goods when they are full to its capacity, is good way of saving electricity and water. A lot of us people have the habit of using these machines to acquire immediate cleanliness of our kitchens or laundries, but the fact is, it is causing so much pollution and excess consumption of our resources. Your house and kitchen can't be that messy, can it ?

9. Water your Plants/Gardens less - Believe it or not my friends, plants and grass have been here long before us humans were, and they "used to" live in the natural seasonal cycles. So why water your garden every day ?, when these plants and grasses are used to adapting to the seasonal rains. Watering in the afternoon at low sun is the best time, this will create minimal evaporation of the water and allows it to sink down deeper into the soil without the sun trying to pick it back up. In some cases the water droplets on a blade of grass during the mid day sun, can amplify the suns rays and cause damage to it.

Another good idea is buying water retaining soil mixture, composting the garden bed surface or even installing a plant base drip irrigation system that delivers water directly to the stem of the plant, instead of it being sprayed all over the place (including the neighbours car). Also, focus on flora from your local habitat, it can already live in your regions seasonal changes without you having to water it. We all love our plants and gardens, but, do they actually need that much water !?

And my last tip for the moment and the most important one...

10 - Talk and discuss solutions with your family and friends ! - Although a lot of us people do have a good idea on the fact of global warming and resolving some issues in regards to pollution, consumption and global warming, there are other people that do not (or some that do not care at all). So it is up to us wise monkey's to spread the wisdom and knowledge that we have learned so far about how we can help our planet survive the storm of human beings that has engulfed its beauty.

All it takes is for one discussion to start, with a family member, friend or stranger at the bus stop, and the solutions to the conflict that we are already applying to our beautiful world, can begin.

We are also responsible for resolving these issues my fellow citizens, it is not just up to our governments to put in the hard work and make the changes

Thankyou very much for ready my Hub, I will make sure to read your opinions in your hubs to see what great information that can also learn from you !
